In “A Well Devised Plan”, the Chicago-based artist Bad Bubble has unleashed another blistering album, where he has unashamedly worn his heart openly on his sleeve for everyone to see. It will resonate with all those, who in some part of their lives, have fought with passion to reach an objective that will bring peace to their soul. We are vulnerable, we are prey, hunted by the predators of cruel life events; and we ourselves claw back with the will to survive, to succeed. This then, is Bad Bubble's music, born out of cruel life events and honed with an all consuming passion to continue; until he can find peace and a semblance of warmth that might comfort his heart.
"Toska Knell"
Beautifully somber and expressive, with great emotive power, the opening instrumental track hints at the strong possibility of emotional vibes to come; and it feels like the artist is announcing from the beginning, he has been on a sad journey, but there is hope, there is a plan. A five star start to the album.
"Beauty Burger"
A kaleidoscope of rhythm and sounds coming together in this absorbing mix. The lovely backing vocals blend seamlessly into what is an all at once, very engaging and melodic track.
"Balls"
A more dramatic turn here, with the ever present melancholy piano riff and an anguished vocal that sears through the music in it's chilling emotive performance. Tragic and spine tingling lovely at the same time.
"Iowa"
I love the sound of the haunting keyboard riff here; it talks to me in it's melody and expression. Beautiful melancholy and reflection of how we try with love in our hearts.
"Door knobbing"
This reminds me of being on a train, that's taking me to an important rendezvous. The inspired rhythmic chugging throughout the mix, is completely dominant in its fixating presence. A traveller passing through the shadows and darker depths of life.
"Over wear"
The electro riff speaks to me of a constant striving, in it's desperate movement combined with the 'Reaching out and hear my hurt' vocal. This track tells of a soul who wants, yearns for and needs something in his life.
"We Will Never Grow Old"
A smooth, soothing melody and mix to this piece, which has a pleasing calming effect, adding more dimension to the album.
"In Pursuit of Something"
You feel the sky is clouding over in this starker, spaced mix and grey mood composition. It's a return to the prevalent tentacles of pain atmosphere in BB's music we've come to expect.
"Character"
An enjoyable slow number, leaning towards a more conventional sound, with quite a strong melody, catchy chorus and warm feel to it. The tuning in, tuning out radio electronic noises enhance what is one of my favourite tracks on the album. Love the very well arranged play out.
"Small"
An intense, busy, unrelenting, stubborn and determined triumph of a composition here; making a powerful statement that won't be denied. I'm liking this a lot, it's like a relentless symphony.
"Important"
This is very possibly Bad Bubble's most beautiful track. It's a wonderful balanced mix of cascading strings and piano, in a superb melody; blending perfectly with the clear, heartfelt vocal. Beautiful indeed. A magnificent piece of work.
"The Eggs Pt.4"
Continuing in the melodic theme, with the emotive keyboard riff leading the way, this last offering seems to play out and round off the album nicely, as it ends on perfect finishing notes.
Bad Bubble's music speaks of someone who existed and deserved a place in this world, but never had a chance. The hope is that one day, his work will be understood and seen for the labour of love and everlasting legacy, he dreamed it would be. Be assured, one day his dream will be full-filled...it takes time...more people will listen and hear the depth in a man possessed; who creates music that reflects his obsession in finding a place in this world, for someone who never had a chance. And his dreams will be full-filled, because love, along with the power of inspired music, conquers all.
